Intel Unveils Wireless Gateway for Home and Small Offices

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 26, 2001--Today at the TECHXNY conference, Intel Corporation announced the Intel® Wireless Gateway, a new base station for home and small offices. With the addition of the new gateway, Intel and its wholly-owned subsidiary Xircom, Inc. now offer wireless base stations for organizations of all sizes.

``True mobility means having access to real-time information and network services at any time, even when away from your desk or workstation,'' said Steve Saltzman, general manager of Intel's Wireless LAN Operation. ``As the leader in wired network connections, and one of the original designers of Ethernet, Intel continues to deliver high-performance solutions that build on existing investments in networking technology and help enable mobile freedom.''

The Intel Wireless Gateway combines an access point, router and firewall into a single, low-cost device. It is optimized for home offices, branch offices or small businesses sharing an Internet connection among several desktop PCs, mobile PCs or handheld devices.

The Intel Wireless Gateway is designed with Web-based software for easy installation, and can be set up within minutes of removing it from the box. Based on the IEEE 802.11b specification, the Intel Wireless Gateway is WiFi(a) certified interoperable with other certified wireless LAN products, and supports a network of up to 32 computers. Additionally, 128-bit encryption and an embedded firewall help protect against network intrusions.

The Intel Wireless Gateway is part of Intel's family of wireless LAN base stations, which includes the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2011 LAN Access Point for enterprise organizations and the Xircom® Wireless Ethernet Access Point for small- to medium-sized businesses.

The Intel Wireless Gateway will be available in August for a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $299. Other Intel networking and communications products are available worldwide through a network of distributors and value-added resellers. Additional product information is available at www.intel.com/network or (800) 538-3373 for U.S. and Canadian customers; (44) 1-793-431-155 for European customers; or (503) 264-7354 for other international customers.

Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of computer, networking and communications products. Additional information about Intel is available at http://www.intel.com/pressroom.
